Apple records sales and market share far ahead of other competitors in the smartwatch segment in the Vietnamese market in particular and in the global market. According to statistics from Counterpoint Research, while a number of major technology product groups such as smartphones, laptops or tablets have seen sales declines in 2022, smartwatches are a rare bright spot with positive growth.
In Vietnam, the smartwatch market in 2022 continues to see many exciting developments, as manufacturers are constantly launching new products, covering affordable to high-end price segments. However, the Apple Watch is still the dominant name.
Number One In Revenue
Smartwatch statistics in the FPT store in 2022 show that Apple is the leader in sales and revenue in this segment.
Specifically, among the top 5 best-selling smartwatch models in the series, the 40mm Apple Watch SE ranked first, followed by the 41mm Apple Watch 7 and 45mm Apple Watch respectively. The two products behind it are Masstel Smart Hero and Xiaomi Band 6 respectively.
In the 10 smartwatches that bring the most revenue to the FPT store, “Apple” also contributed with 9 names.
According to Mobile World’s smartwatch sales statistics, Apple contributes 6 products to the top 10 devices. Apple Watch SE and Apple Watch Series 7 are the two smartwatch models that generated the best revenue for this series in 2022.
The same trend is also registered in CellphoneS. Nguyen Lac Huy, media representative for the series, said that Apple is the leading name in smartwatch revenue.
“Four of the five smartwatch models with the highest mobile sales belong to Apple. The highest is the Apple Watch SE, followed by the Apple Watch Series 7. In 4th and 5th place are the Apple Watch Series 8 and the Apple Watch Ultra”, revealed. person.
Pocket 60% Of Industry Revenue
According to a report by Counterpoint Research, in the fourth quarter of 2022, global smartwatch shipments dropped by 2% over the same period. This is also the first quarter in the past eight quarters to see a decline in smartwatch shipments. However, the total number of smartwatches shipped globally in 2022 is up 12% year-on-year thanks to the first three quarters of the year.
The number of Apple Watch sold in 2022 represents 34.1% of the global smartwatch market share, which is equivalent to 1 in 3 smartwatches sold worldwide. It is behind Samsung with 9.8% market share, Huawei (6.7%) and a number of other manufacturers.
Last year, the total number of Apple Watch shipments increased by 17% compared to the same period in 2021, thanks to the good sales of Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch Ultra and Apple Watch SE 2022. In 2022, the number of shipments from Apple Watch rose more than 50 to the first One million units / year, accounting for 60% of global smartwatch revenue, widening the gap with Samsung.
The year 2022 also marked the shift of smartwatch users from the mid-range to the high-end and affordable segments. The number of devices shipped in the $100-400 segment decreased, while the volume of devices priced at $400 or more and $100 or less increased by 129% and 34%, respectively, over the same period.
Woojin Son, an analyst at Counterpoint Research, said Apple indirectly increased the average selling price (ASP) in the smartwatch model market in 2022, especially with prices above $400.
According to Mr. Sun, due to exchange rate fluctuations and Apple’s attractive product lineup, the ASP of the entire smartwatch industry has increased compared to the same period in 2021. Another reason comes from the market’s still high demand for high-end products generation despite unfavorable macroeconomic factors at the end of 2022.
